About MapleTree

KitchenMaple Tree Furnituremakers & Co. Inc., in operation since 1997, designs and builds heirloom-quality custom furniture and cabinetry. Maple Tree makes it possible for the discriminating furniture customer to commission furniture that is especially designed to exactly meet his or her functional requirements, taste and budget.

With over 20 years of custom furniture design experience, spanning classic traditional furniture and contemporary furniture, Owner/Founder Peter Elliott first carefully learns the needs and taste of each person seeking custom furniture and cabinets and develops designs that meet these needs; add functionality and creative ideas; and inspire. Through dialogue and design iterations, a perfect design is achieved and MapleTree develops a priced proposal with detailed specifications. As needed, further dialogue optimizes the design to achieve the right balance of cost, functionality and aesthetics, with the philosophy that our role is to facilitate the customer’s decision-making process, not to “make a sale”.  Customers who do order are welcomed to our shop to view construction progress and meet our craftsmen and we send progress photos by email and text.

Background of Owner and Founder, Peter Elliott

Owner and founder Peter Elliott, was born and raised in Canada (hence the “Maple” in MAPLETREE). From childhood, Peter developed a deep appreciation for antique furniture, as his father, a country doctor, loved to find and restore antiques, and Peter would help his father strip layers of paint down to find the beauty of handmade furniture beneath. From these early experiences, Peter developed a belief that furniture should be built to last for generations.

Later in life, Peter graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in civil engineering and is a licensed professional engineer. After a twenty years’ career in the designing and building of steel mills around the world, Peter founded MAPLETREE, in 1992, to change his woodworking hobby into a full-time occupation. Over the years, he had developed a new method of constructing furniture, to make furniture stronger and more durable, and his method has been patented in the U.S. Patent Office. As appropriate, MAPLETEE uses both this patented method and conventional carcass construction.
