Murray Secretary

"MapleTree is the place to go if you want a quality custom-made, heirloom quality piece of furniture.  It isn't cheap- but you get what you pay for.  The craftsmanship and attention to detail are impeccable.  You end up with exactly what you want at a reasonable price"

Dr. and Mrs. Murray had been searching for a particular desk, a secretary, for years, without success. They needed it to be in a particular style, that of 18th Century New England, but with special functionality, to house a computer and a large amount of file storage. The closest they could come was some replica furniture made in Connecticut, but none of the desks offered by this firm were the right size or had the functionality that the Murrays required.  Eventually, through a web search, Mrs. Murray found MapleTree, and asked us to develop designs and pricing for her to consider.

After several months and numerous drawing iterations, with tremendous input by the Murrays, working closely with MapleTree, we finally perfected a design that met all of the Murrays’ requirements, in terms of style, size, functionality and price.  The Murrays then placed their order with MapleTree. Built of cherry, the secretary features three lateral file drawers, a fold-down top that becomes a solid working surface, with wooden slide-out supports making it child-proof. (The Murrays’ young children had inadvertently destructively load-tested the factory-made desk that the Murrays had been using before they found MapleTree, so strength and durability were key parameters in our design!)  Pigeon holes and drawers above the desktop provide handy storage. Unlike 18th Century secretaries, the MapleTree secretary is designed around a computer, so that the monitor and CPU are hidden from view when the desk’s lid is closed.
